So here comes my first post on............MUSIC!!!!!!!!
Right now im listening to a Queen cover by Yngwie Malmstein - Keep Yourself Alive.
BUt this post is about........METALLICA.
Most people would call them sell outs after their Black Album but I tend to disagree. The band created 4 of the best Thrash Metal albums ever in the period of less than a decade. Thesecontained great epics like Master of Puppets, Fade to Black and One. They also had fast thrashing songs that could cut through the silence of my room like a razor..Seek and Destroy, Ride The Lightning or ell Tolls and Creeping Death.
I cant actually say much that hasnt already been said about these albums....there are those who give all the credit to their being young and powerfull(thus implying that now they arent), there are those who consider the real reason of their producing such monster greatness to only Cliff Burton(to them id say....LOOK AT AND JUSTICE FOR ALL...no problems with cliff..he was a great musician...undoubtedly and pretty much defined the music of the band to a large extent...but dont diss the other guys coz they are just as good) and so on and forth.....reasons abound.
My statement is that metallica never really destroyed their musical genius...Black album was a pretty radio friendly album...so many hardcore fans hate it...but maybe we shouldnt blame Metallica for 'selling out' they made music under a new producer and they made soemthing slightly different form whathtey used to..and it was a runaway hit!!!! Black album had the typical attributes that some people carectorize with sell out mania....catchy riffs...videos and nothing truly epic or long lasting. Well the bands music did change.. you cant expect them to keep on having the worlds best songs forever....
Then came Load and reload....here the bands direction changed..these werent true thrash albums...but is that supposed to be a bad thing...they went alternative to an extent...they changed the music they played but they still played it like metallica...a step above everyone else.
Why does everyone hate that fact that metallica changed their music..i mean ifi was playing one sub genre(or genre) of music for over a decade and then decided I want a change then its understandable..the songs again werent Awesome but they were good..the criticism they got was a result of the fame they had.....the stature they had received....its natural..but uncalled for.
S&M was and is according to me one ofthe best innovations possible...playing Hardcore metal along with Classical Musicians is a daunting task and it provided us with another new form of collaboration of the music we always loved with another aspect of music that most of us were ignorant of. It was a great concert and one of metallica's best live performances ever(maybe second only to the Cliff Burton vids ive seen and Binge and Purge Seattle).
Saint anger had some good lyrics but what mainly lacked was production...on the attempt for going Raw they ended up going too raw..the sound sucked...we know the solo's were missing but to be honest i never noticed that till i read it somewhere...honestly..
the riffs were new and great and they sounded good when heard on live vids...metallica still has a lot of the power they once had...
they might not headbanging as much anymore but they still command the stage once theyre on it....they till play awesomely..james voice has changed from a shriekin banshee to a roaring lion post RTL.
Metallica is a band ie always loved and i always will....even if they coome up with a trash album this time..ill be let down..be angry at them..but still love them...so heres a slaute to the four horsemen...no matter who is in the band..its always acted as a unit...no one is great..they all are greats!!!
